MOT'd and Working

I have actually been spending a bit of time driving around in the car! I fashioned an exhaust from a combination of some new silencers and pre-bent bits I got from the excellent Jetex. I had a small setback in that the car failed again as there weren't enough brackets holding the exhaust in place and I'd failed to notice one of the indicator tell-tale lights in the dash was out.

Soon sorted that and the parking brake, and I've fitted a remote oil cooler too. Now I'm not spewing gallons onto the road all the time, I have even changed the oil.

Recent mileages
Sat 9/7 - 42142 - 42161
Sun 10//7 42161 - 42190

I went to Rempstone in the car - parked in the ordinary car park - I don't feel the car is up to show standard. Was tickled pink though, when a chap stopped and took a photo of it.

MOT Passed

Well the 68 is now legal again. The testers don't do appointments, so I had to hang around for ages, but having replaced the brakes (new front discs, hubs, calipers, quite a few pipe etc) and quite a bit of the steering, as well as adjusting the parking brake, it passed. Looking back at the paperwork, it appears to have taken since May2007 to get it all sorted - much longer than I thought, but at least it's done.

I think one of the front tyres is out of shape, and there's a long list of stuff to do (isn't there always?) but at least I can drive and enjoy it, once the snow stops.

MOT on the '68

I've had to change the blog title to the plural now there are two of 'em. Two of the failure items were a loose inner tie rod balljoint and a loose joint on the pitman arm. RHD pitman arms seem to be as rare as rocking horse dung, but the inner and outer tie rods I ordered arrived today, with an unexpected bonus - a Pitman arm. Sadly it doesn't fit! Next prob is getting the outer joint separated - can't get either of my pullers to fit on it. I have applied WD40 and am off to get a different puller.

Failed MOT and a new car

The Rebel failed its MOT, so to cheer myself up, I bought another one! It's a 67 model - been standing 20 years. It is very mouldy and rusty. Someone had removed the brake drums, wheel cylinders, calipers and master cylinder - not sure why. I have all the bits and I put the wheel cylinders and drums back so I could get the parking brake working.

Mileage of the '68 at MOT fail was 93615 as I had been out a couple of times not recorded in here.
